The house must have realized his ideals of a 'feudal mansion dispensing Christian hospitality' as the house has an air of greater age than it really has. The garden is formal out the lawns in front lead down to a silver river over hung by willows. All the guides are old servants of the family & point proudly to portraits of their forefathers who served Sir Walter. We reached Edinburgh at 6:30 & found the hotel very comfortable, despite gloomy prophecies. a cathedralOn Tuesday July 9th, we started off in a cab. With a communicative driver to see the sights. We went first to the Castle. It has a magnificent situation & many historical associations. James I & VI were born in one of the rooms.
