the narrow openingare exquisite - purples and turquoises and sapphire seas - and the stillness of the water was a blessing after the frigid North Sea. The next Monday morning we reached the Bay of Diegermulen quite early & about 10:30 started off in the launch "Dalaware" for the Troldfjord. We headed for what was apparently a ring of perfectly unbroken hills but suddenly we saw a very narrow opening into which we turned. The fjord was long and narrow with precipices of bare rock rising on each side from the peacock-blue water. The

colours were those of the Koenigsee only far deeper & the effect was consequently more imposing, as in many places there were huge patches of snow. We landed on a very slippery rock & walked around in a snow marsh until our feet got wet. The time was too short to see the Frozen Lake, so we returned midnight sun described on the next page.
