2 girls in native customto Bergen where we arrived on Monday afternoon - of course it rained hard all the time we were there. It is very German & the coffee was simply delicious. The best thing in the town was the Hanseatic museum - the house on the Governors of the Hanseatic League. It was most interesting because it is practically as it was in the 15th and 16th centuries. The building is tall & narrow, very dark with tiny circular staircases - How the fat Germans could get up there is more than I can understand. Each apprentice had his little narrow cupboard-bed while the Governor had a palatial appartment about five feet square! looking down on a small island in a little lake surrounded by mountainsClaudia got a lovely set of white fox & we returned to the Arcadian through a maze of coalers & water barges. The boat left about midnight for Tosse, and fortunately we had a bright day for our drive. We landed with the first launch & got into fascinating little two-wheeled carts drawn by
