ruins at Melrosebeen a disagreeable person with an inexplicable hatred of women. In the Galilee is the tomb of the Venerable Bebe, & of Caederon both very plain. The Choir stalls are black oak, finely carved. It is a very interesting Cathedral. We got away about nine-thirty & had two punctures right in succession so we got to Jedburgh about 2. The Abbey has a fine rose window (without the glass). After lunch we went on to Melrose. It is a beautiful ruin & has several fine windows. Robert Bruce's heart is buried there. 7 several of the Gargoyles are very curious. There we went on the few miles to Abbotsford. It is a lovely house & it has a very fine library & several interesting rooms & possessions of many people like Rob Roy, The Bruce, Price Charlie, Mary Queen of Scots, James I & VI and others of equal historical association. Of course, we sawruins at Melrose
