people haymaking. The valley was full of what looked like five barred gates, but which were really drying lines for the hay which is exposed to the sun on these before it is stacked.
All the wood shelters were made of timber, turned silver-gray by exposure & topped by lichen - covered gray slate. These & the hay fences surround the farm yards & are the only picturesque things made by man in the country. When we got to Norhennsund after a 25 mile drive the Arcadian was just steaming in to the harbour & we boarded her tired but happy. That was about 4 o'clock & all the evening we steamed down the Hardauger fjord by our last mountains. That night the sun set at the nearly civilized hour of 9:30! - a blessed relief as the midnight sun is a bit hard on one's eyes! We reached Grunisby early Thursday morning, after a day of horror on the North Sea.
