Nellie Vining Christopher

Mrs. Nellie Vining Christopher Dies Early This Morning

Mrs. Nellie Vining Christopher, beloved Pine Bluff matron, 314 West Fourteenth avenue, widow of Benjamin Harrison Christopher, died at 6 this morning at the Davis hospital, where she had been undergoing treatment since Oct. 20. Mrs. Christopher had been in failing health the past two years.

A native of Illinois, she was born in Mattoon in 1866, daughter of the late George J. and Cornelia Aldridge Vining, for many years prominent local residents.

Mrs. Vining came to Pine Bluff with her parents in her early girlhood, and received her education here.

An accomplished musician, she was the first organist at the Lakeside Methodist church and a charter member. Active in the work of the church for many years, she was identified with the various organizations and presented the elevator system to the church as a memorial to her late husband, who died here in 1929.

She was married in 1890 in Pine Bluff to Mr. Christopher and the family made their home at thirteenth and Chestnut street, the present site of the Parkview Apartments.

Mrs. Christopher leaves three sons, Freelin H. Christopher and Cornelius Vining Christopher of Pine Bluff and Ben H. Christopher of Minneapolis, Minn.; two brothers, A. L. Vining of Little Rock and Fred Vining of Greenwood, Miss.; two granddaughters, Mrs. George Russell of Pine Bluff and Miss Mary Ellen Christopher of Minneapolis; one great grandson, Chris Russell of Pine Bluff and a number of Niece and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 from the chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son mortuary with Rev. Otto W. Teague, pastor of Lakeside Methodist church in charge.

Burial will be in Bellwood cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Fred Vining, Ray Pearce, Edward Miller, George Russell, Jack Bowden, Walter Gould, Kenneth Mats, Milton Williams, and Julian Crawford.

Honorary pallbearers will be D. M. Niven, Sr., Garland Brewster, George M. Wells, Dan McDonald, Chris Meyer, O.C. Hauber, Art Moore, Harvey Hogg, Henry Monk, Pinchback Taylor, Fulton Murphy, George Payne, Carr Rasop, Henry Y. Williams, Dr. Fred Hames, Dr. R. D. Dickens, Virginius Mean and John Custer and Ludovic Alexander of Little Rock.

The remains of Mrs. Christopher are in the parlor of Ralph Robinson and Son mortuary.
