George Joseph Vining, Jr.

George Vining Dies At Hospital Here, Funeral Tomorrow

George Vining, 65, resident of this city practically all his life and for many years identified in the cotton business here, died at 730 o'clock this morning at the hospital here after an illness lasting about 30 days.

Mr. Vining was born at Mattoon, Ill, son of the late George J. Vining and Cornelia Vining, pioneer residents of Pine Bluff.

He moved to Pine Bluff with his parents at an early age and for a time was identified with his late father in the grocery business for himself. After retiring from the grocery business here he was in business in Birmingham, Ala., several years and then returned here and since had operated as a cotton buyer.

He is survived by his widow, the former Miss Maggie Rutledge of Pine Bluff; a son Rutledge Vining of Fulton, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. B. H. Christopher of Pine Bluff; four brothers, Tom Vining and John Vining of Pine Bluff, Fred Vining of Greenwood, Miss., and Arthur Vining of Little Rock, and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the chapel of the Ralph Robinson & Son mortuary in charge of Rev. Fred G. Roebuck, pastor of the Lakeside Methodist church.

Burial will be on the family plot in Bellwood cemetery in charge of Ralph Robinson & Son mortuary.

Active pallbearers will be Henry Speers, Cheser List, Junius Jordan, Dick Jones, Neal Martin and Met Galligher.

Honorary pallbearers will be George List, Collier Lee, Wade Knox, Leo Andrews, Bill Perry, Will Alexander, Mack Hunter, Bob Wilkins, Sidney Weil, J. P. Jordan, Jay Levine and Joe Gocio of Grady, Ark.
