George Joseph Vining, Sr.

George J. Vining, Sr.

George J. Vining, Sr., an old and respected resident of Pine Bluff, died shortly after 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home in South Main street, after an illness extending over the past nine days. Death resulted from an attack of pneumonia.

Mr. Vining was 79 years of age, and was widely known in all parts of the city. For very many years he was in the retail grocery trade here, but retired some years ago, since which time he has done no active work except at gardening at his home, of which he was most fond.

He is survived by his widow and five sons, Fred E. Vining, George J. Vining, Jr., Art Vining, John Vining and Luce Vining. Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed.

George Joseph Vining, Sr.

The funeral of the late George Joseph Vining, Sr., who died in his home, Twenty-third and Main, Monday at 1 o'clock, will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence. A man of simple habits, without ostentation, his desires, as expressed, will be regarded in the obsequies. The services will be private, no flowers, he preferring such tributes of sympathy to be used for charitable cause. The five sons of the deceased, Messrs. Tom Vining, Arch Vining, George Vining, Fred Vining, and John Vining will be pallbearers.

A daughter, Mrs. Ben Christopher, his wife, also a number of grandchildren survive.

Mr. Vining's Funeral

The funeral of George J. Vining, Sr., who died Monday afternoon, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family home in South Main Street.

In accordance with the expressed wish of the deceased, the services will be private, there will be no flowers and the sons of the deceased will serve as pallbearers, these being Tom Vining, Arch Vining, George Vining, Jr., Fred Vining, and John
