Fred Ernest Vining

Fred E. Vining, Former Resident, Dies at Greenwood

Fred Ernest Vining, Greenwood, Miss., businessman and a former resident of Pine Bluff, died late Sunday afternoon at his home in Greenwood as the result of a lengthy illness.

While living in Pine Bluff, Mr. Vining was connected with the Isaac Dreyfus Company until 19** when he established his own business, under the name of Vining's Ladies Ready to Wear, on the corner of Fifth and Main.

In 1929, Mr. Vining went to Greenwood as a buyer for Goodman's Department Store in which capacity he continued until 1932 when he established the Vining Typewriter Service, retiring about 15 years ago.

Mr. Vining was a descendant of an English family, his paternal grandfather having served as lord mayor of Bristol, England. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Vining and was born at Mattoon, Ill.

Coming to Arkansas with his parents at an early age he received his education at the Jordan Academy for Boys and the University of Arkansas.

On Dec. 11, 1906, he was married to Minnie Payne of Pine Bluff, who survives him.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Greenwood where he served as deacon for many years. He was also a member of the Greenwood Rotary Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Fred E. Vining, Jr. and Paul Vining of Pine Bluff and Raymond Vining of McGehee; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Greenwood after which the body will be brought to Pine Bluff with grave side services scheduled for 4 p.m. at Bellwood Cemetery Annex with arrangements here by Robinson Mortuary.

Pallbearers will be Ed Wollerman, Wilbur West, C.A. Roberts, Jr., H. T. Olcott, J.R. McNulty, Burt Schlosberg, Orlando Carmichael and Bill Reid.
