Eleanor Phelps Wilds1958 Aiken Woman of the Year, Mrs. Robert H. Wilds DiesAIKEN -- Mrs. Robert Henry Wilds died at St. Josephs Hospital, Augusta, Monday. Funeral services will be held at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Surviving are a daughter, Miss Claudia Phelps Wilds of Washington; two sons, Sheffield Phelps Wilds of Florence and Dr. Preston Lea Wilds of Augusta, Ga.; a step daughter, Mrs. Leonard A. Williamson of Aiken; a step son, Louis T. Wilds of Augusta; a sister, Miss Claudia Lea Phelps of Aiken; a brother, William Walter Phelps of Aiken; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Born in Teaneck, N.J., Mrs. Wilds was the former Eleanor Phelps, a daughter of the late Sheffield Phelps and Claudia Wright Lea Phelps. She had lived in Aiken for many years. She had been a member of the board of the Aiken Hospital and Relief Society, a trustee of the Aiken County Hospital since 1953 and secretary of the board of the Aiken Preparatory School since 1937. Mrs. Wilds organized the Aiken County Hospital Auxiliary, was chairman for several terms and was chairman of the S.C. Hospital Auxiliaries. In 1958 Mrs. Wilds was named "Woman of the Year" by the Aiken Chamber of Commerce. The State, January 24, 1967 |
